Common Questions:

Q: Why should I go solar today? Why not wait until prices drop?

A: Sungevity will lower a homeowners energy costs from day 1, so every year they wait is another year of savings lost. Additionally, state and federal rebates are declining over time, so even as technology gets cheaper, the net price facing homeowners will remain relatively flat.

Q: What credit score do I need to qualify?

A: If the homeowner would like to take advantage of the $0 Down Lease, a FICO credit score of 700 is required. However, there is NO CREDIT CHECK if the homeowner is prepaying the lease in full.
Q: What kind of savings should I expect?

A: Savings will vary depending on how much energy the homeowner uses, their roof potential, where they live and their electric utility provider. A typical homeowner will save about 15% net with the $0 down lease in their first year, and their savings will increase every year as grid energy rates rise. The Sungevity iQuote will tell home owners what savings they can expect for their home.
Q: How does this compare to a PPA?

A: A lease and a PPA are two ways of accomplishing the same goal: letting a homeowner pay for solar energy as they use it, rather than all at once and ahead of time. Both allow a homeowner to go solar with little to no upfront cost. However, with a Sungevity lease, the monthly payment is stable, so the homeowner can budget accurately. And Sungevity doesn’t charge more if the homeowners system overproduces—that’s simply free energy.
Q: What happens at the end of the lease term?

A: Homeowners will have four options at the end of their lease:
  1. Renew in five year increments;
  2. Upgrade to the latest technology with a new lease;
  3. Purchase the system at fair market value;
  4. Have the system removed at no cost to the homeowner.
Q: What happens if I move?

A: The system remains with the home, and the lease is transferable to the new homeowner.
Q: Sounds too good to be true—what’s the catch?

A: Sungevity is able to take advantage of tax benefits available to corporations, and then pass those savings on to customers through a low monthly lease rate or prepaid lease option. By pioneering the online solar quote system (called iQuote) and use proprietary imaging software to help design solar systems remotely, Sungevity is able to pass all savings on to their customers. An A- rated company by the Better Business Bureau and the highest independent customer satisfaction rating possible through the Diamond Certification process, Sungevity is committed to making it easy and affordable for homeowners to go solar.
